Dreaming California

A friend of mine works in Alameda, and we recently discovered the long, skinny beach that runs along Alameda on the Bay side. It was so peaceful and empty; we were some of the only people there on a beautiful Saturday. Definitely a well-kept secret, I almost don’t want to tell anyone about it...

The beach itself is very clean, with restrooms and plenty of parking along the side-streets near the beach. This was great specifically because there weren’t cars parked along the shore, so we didn’t notice the traffic from the road that runs along the water. It does make it challenging to cross the traffic from the side streets, and there is a shopping center nearby which brings more people along the road. But once you cross the road you’re there!

I read that the water here is the warmest in the Bay Area, and I believe it. On each visit to the beach I went in the water - it’s shallow and warm, even if the sand feels a *tiny* bit mushy under your toes (just don't think about it). I could deal with that easily, because there’s nothing worse for me than being at a beach where you don’t have a way to cool off. It was a big plus that the water was warm enough for a dip.

If you live in the Bay and need a nice beach spot, this is definitely the place to go. Bring friends who are good at it secret! I have a feeling I'm going to be spending plenty of my summer here...
